Take a moment to check out the short video I edited a few months ago for Red Mango to help kick off their new Smoothies (which, by the way, I highly recommend)!
Finished editing this yesterday - an interview I did with music producer Elite for iStandardProducers.com. Elite talks about how he got into music production, his years as an in-house producer for Ruff Ryders, his work with DMX, Jadakiss, J. Cole, and more.
This is a throwback essay from 2005 about Illmatic, written during my junior year of college, that tries to understand the different layers of imagery that coexist in the album. I also really tried to explore how the album's instrumentation converses with & informs the lyrics. Looking back on it, I think I found it hard to sincerely discuss possible meanings behind the music while keeping the lameness & pretension in my writing to a minimum. (Not saying I succeeded! But I did try.)
Here's a helpful article that breaks down the differences between Trim modes in Avid and Final Cut Pro. Pretty useful.
Here's a useful reference sheet for those wanting to learn some useful
Avid shortcuts. Apparently Avid used to give something like this away
with their products, but no longer do.
Homeless people in Baltimore donated money to Haiti. [this story still
amazes me.]

Shana Kent is an Associate Producer and Assistant Editor working in film & television in New York City. After graduating from Vassar College in 2006 with a degree in Africana Studies and a correlate in Music, Shana spent a year in the doctoral program for American Studies at the University of Maryland, before realizing that she wanted to spend as much time creating media as she did writing about it. She went on to complete a Masters program in Television, Radio and Film at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
Shana's production career began at MTV, where she helped produce movie promos and a series for MTV Mobile before becoming Associate Producer for VH1 Rock Doc Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America. After Assistant Editing PBS's LennonNYC, an American Masters film about John Lennon, she returned to VH1 where she is currently working on Behind the Music.
